The Department of Waste Management and Environmental Protection prepares the projects and ecological surveys of the communal and industrial waste yards, reports of influence on the environment, works out the methods of safety storage and transport of waste (including the dangerous one), and prepares the feasibility studies of the infrastructure investments.

- Expertises, opinions and examinations concerning the thermal state of coal heaps and objects consisting of coal waste (dumps, rail and road embankments, river embankments and recultivation sites) and fire phenomena occurrence possibility prognoses
- Conceptions and technical projects of reparation (fire extinguishing), preventional and recultivation actions in the sites endangered by endogenous fires
- Waste material and other loose materials physico-chemical properties examinations from the point of view of their using as stowing material (according to the PN-93/G-11010 norm) or for filling of the undeground voids in coal mines, and also for fire prevention on the coal waste heaps
- Communal waste dumps internal temperature and gaseous atmosphere constitution measurements and the biogas content assessment
