Elaborated by the specialists from the Central Mining Institute waste dump CO2 emission analyser was given the Golden Medal during the International Innovation, Scientific Research and New Technologies MEDINNOVA 2011 which took place in 30th November – 3rd December 2011 in Casablanca, Marocco.

The device for measuring level of carbon dioxide emission from waste dumps was elaborated within the framework of  development project refinanced by European Union within the framework of Operational Programme Innovative Economy “Management system of liquidation of CO2 emission from the coal waste dumps” with the acronym COOL’S.

Analyser is a modern, portable measurement set for in-situ tests. It enables to measure and balance the leak of carbon dioxide from waste dumps in all the conditions including measurements in self-heating zones. Monitoring of such greenhouse gases emitters enables to take up technological action against emission into the environment. It makes a significant contribution to environment state improvement by monitoring and balancing CO2 emission as a greenhouse gas from waste dumps.

Measurement is characterized by wide range (0-50 000 ppm), linearity of the characteristics, resistance to other fire gases, smokiness, temperature, pressure and air humidity changes. Through this high accuracy of the measurements and possibility of both high and low concentration were gained. Set contains CO2 IR-GIG meter, desorption bell (self-production elements), ultrasonic anemometer measuring wind strength and rose, flowmeter and supply- registration module.

The authors of the invention underline that it is possible to elaborate spark-safe version of the CO2 meter which will improve work safety in mines, enable to control carbon dioxide emission in mines or monitoring of the fire sites as well as underground coal gasification processes management.
