GIG participated in the European Week of Regions and Cities - OPEN DAYS

On 12 October 2016, within the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels - OPEN DAYS, D.Eng. Dorota Burchart-Korol, Prof. GIG, represented the Province of Silesia and gave a lecture titled “Investing into the Future - Local and Regional Authorities and their Stakeholders searching for sustainable solutions for economic growth in the field of circular economy”. The subject of her speech was the essence of the life cycle approach in the energy sector in the implementation of the requirements of the closed circuit economy, which she presented using the example of research work carried out at the Central Mining Institute on clean coal technologies in Silesia.

The conference was held at the headquarters of the Representation of North Rhine-Westphalia. The conference was co-organized by the Regional Office of Silesia in Brussels as part of a consortium representing the following European regions: North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany), Brabant Wallon (Belgium), Silesia (Poland), Gironde (France), and Hradec Kralowe (Czech Republic).

The conference was also attended by representatives of local authorities and a delegation of Councillors of The Silesian Provincial Assembly. The Regional Office of Silesia in Brussels was represented by Dr. Andrzej Szteliga, Plenipotentiary of the Marshal - the Head of the Office, and Ms Natalia Matyba. The first part of the debate concerned the role of the closed circuit economy for local and regional authorities. The second panel was focused on the role of citizens in activities aimed at implementing the guidelines of the closed circuit economy. During the discussion, the participants emphasized the importance of educational programs for schools and universities related to environmental and social matters in the field of waste management.

The European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels - OPEN DAYS was a great opportunity to exchange experiences and best practices in the field of the closed circuit economy.
