  • The Central Mining Institute is a research institute of the A category
  • It has a modern research infrastructure, including 3 new research complexes: The Clean Coal Technology Centre, Silesian Centre for Environmental Radioactivity and the Laboratory for Mineral and Waste Processing
  • The Institute has the status of a Notified Authority in the field of four directives of the European Union and the authorities of the certification body under the IECEx scheme
  • It has implemented the Integrated Management System (quality, health and safety and the environment)
  • The Institute has full permissions to grant academic degrees of the doctor of technical sciences and a doctor habilitatus of technical sciences in the following disciplines: mining and engineering  geology - since 1961, environment engineering - since 1998.

  • 1 title of professor conferred by the President of the Republic of Poland
  • 3 post-doctoral degrees obtained by GIG employees
  • 1 post-doctoral degree obtained by a person from outside GIG
  • 6 doctoral degrees obtained by GIG employees
  • 2 doctoral degrees obtained by persons from outside GIG
  • 46 projects (including 30 international research projects within the scope of EU Programmes and other programmes, as well as 16 national projects)
  • 3900 research and service assignments realised for industry and administration
  • 20 awards won
  • 21 foreign delegations that visited GIG
  • 222 publications published
  • 20 applications to obtain exclusive rights (including: 14 inventions, 2 utility models, 2 industrial designs, 1 trademark, 1 invention filed under the PCT international procedure)
  • 10 exclusive rights: 5 rights of protection for utility models and 5 patents for inventions
  • 4 contracts (3 of joint ownership, 1 of implementation)
